Jordan Denounces Israeli Settler Assaults on Gaza Aid Convoys
According to government spokesperson Mohammad Momani, the recent incident involved a convoy of 30 aid trucks attempting to enter Gaza, where settlers obstructed the route and hurled stones, damaging four vehicles.
This marks the second attack in just one week; a similar event on Sunday forced two trucks to return to Jordan without delivering aid.
Momani emphasized that these attacks jeopardize driver safety and disrupt the crucial flow of humanitarian supplies, constituting breaches of international laws and existing agreements.
He criticized what he described as inadequate responses to these incidents and urged Israeli authorities to respond swiftly and decisively.
Momani also pointed to ongoing challenges faced by the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization in facilitating aid delivery, including prolonged border processing times, restricted inspection hours, and new customs fees ranging from $300 to $400 per truck.
He noted, "The journey from Amman to Gaza should take only about two hours, but due to restrictions, a single trip now takes approximately 36 hours."
Meanwhile, the Hamas-run government media office in Gaza reported that since Israel announced on July 27 it would permit aid shipments, only 853 trucks have entered Gaza from a total of 6,000 prepared for entry.
The office further stated that Gaza requires at least 600 trucks of aid and fuel daily to adequately support its healthcare, services, and food sectors.
